This Ashcroft 1944 steam pressure gauge, model P7234, offers a glimpse into the era of steam power. Manufactured by the Ashcroft Company, a firm established in 1852 known for its pressure gauges, this particular gauge measures pressure from 0-100 psi with 1lb. subdivisions. A patent date of October 20, 1944, is etched on the backside of the gauge, pinpointing its production period. Given Ashcroft's historical focus, it's likely this gauge was used on railroad steam engines, although steam boats were another potential application. The gauge's discovery in an area primarily served by railroads in the 1940s further supports the railroad engine theory. Encased in cast iron, the gauge is currently missing its glass faceplate, and its operational status is unknown. Despite the missing glass, this gauge stands as a tangible piece of engineering history from a company, Ashcroft, that remains in operation today. Other than that, it is in good condition with no nicks or scratches.
