This spool of yarn is twisted yarn with what looks like and feels like (to me) is metallic fibers which was introduce in the textile industry in 1941 by DuPont. The Henry F. Thomas Inc. Company produced this spool of yarn. The textile mill was located in Forest City, North Caroline sometime before or in 1914. At this time, there was an increasing demand for American-made textile goods during the World War I era. The war stated in 1914 and ended in 1918 and in that time span there was an increase demand for military uniforms, blankets, and other apparel, which stimulated the North Carolina textile industry, which resulted in a large increase in the number of textile mills in that state. Between 1974 and 1984, textile imports nearly tripled and by the mid-1980s, imports accounted for 43 percent of the clothing bought in the United States. When did Henry F. Thomas Inc. Company start is unknown and when did it closed its doors for the last time is unknown. This spool of yarn was purchase by my mother or grandmother in the late 40’s or early 50’s. it was packed away for the last 38 years. I do not know if it is a full spool or not.
