Sometimes you come cross an antique that just falls between the cracks. This salt and pepper shaker set is one of these antiques. It is a rare find indeed. It was made by the Peerless Silver Co., which was founded in 1936 in Brooklyn, New York and active until 1960. The company can be found however, there is not much information about the company. The Peerless Silver Co. made hollowware and silver plated tableware in that timeframe. This maker’s mark is not list anywhere with what information that can be found on the company. This shaker set is part of the La French series with Reg. number 514. All salt and pepper shakers in the series had three or more number, which identifies the shakers design. I could not find any La French Reg. 514 anywhere on the internet or in any written information. The set looks like Art Deco design which would date it around the mid to later 30s to early 40s. It is silver-plated and the silver is a little tarnished or it had a protected coating on it. A protected coating is a common thing that is done to prevent tarnishing of silver so the silver did not need to be polished. Other than that, they are in excellent condition.
