Information on this cup and saucer set is hard to find. What is known is after 1891 the US federal law required all imports to be marked with their country of origin. That time China just used the plain word "CHINA" up to 1919. In 1920 the words "MADE IN" was added to the word “CHINA” which was required from 1919 to modern times. There is a great confusion about marks on early Chinese porcelain, pottery, and ceramics since the rule in China at first was to mark the porcelain, pottery, and ceramics with whatever mark they believe, would add to the value of the product. Between 1930 to 1950 the marks where haphazardly applied, and they were applied under the glazing. Made in China is the mark that is affixed to products manufactured in the early People's Republic of China. (The early Peoples Republic of China period is from1949 to1966) It is assumed that no marks with the full text "Made in China" is before 1919 and more likely to be from the second WW or later. The design on this cup and saucer set is applied on top of the glazing in addition, the “Made in China” is also applied on top of the glazing as well. This pattern seems to be a rare pattern could not find it in my research. The pattern does not look like it is hand applied however, the gold trim on both the cup and saucer does look like it was hand applied. Some of the gold trim on the cup has wear off. The gold trim is either 22k or 24k gold, if it is real gold. The colors are bright and clear. My best guess of age is it is between 1950 to 1966. Other than that, it is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, necks, scratches, repairs, fleabites and stains.
