     This beautiful, Bone China saucer is made by Royal Crown Derby Company in their famous Mikado series. The inspiration was derived from rice paper drawings form the Far East  The original Mikado patterns was redesigned by the art director Thomas A. Reed at the Royal Crown Derby, who was inspired by the rice paper drawings. The Oriental taste has been popular at the Royal Crown Derby form the time it was founded in 1748. The intricate scenes tell a romantic story, with each small porcelain ware design is one chapter of the story based on the Mikado Opera story. That is set on a beautifully backdrop of rivers, mountains, and/or delicate leaf tracery on the tradition blue and white colors ware, Later it was produced in multi-color version and a variety of monochrome colors. A variety of prints has appeared over the years with the gold print on a rich yellow background being the rarest ware in the series. This Mikado series is one of the most sought after patterns made by Royal Crown Derby in English Bone China. The smaller ware are decorated with a different chapter and parts of the rice paper drawing and the larger ware was decorated with the complete drawing, the originally recorded show the Mikado series collection pattern in Book number 9, with pattern number 4001 and the Dover shape. The first product of the Mikado Series was produced from 1891 to 1921, which had the word “England” in the vertical position to the right of the hallmark and the second product was from 1921 to 1964 in which the words “Made in England” is horizontally blow the Hallmark. The Rome numeral “XVI” stands for the year it was made. In this case, the Rome numeral stands for “1953” when this saucer was made. Ware that was made from 1921 to 1964 had a different Rome numeral for dating the ware. The saucer has scalpel edge with gold trim. The saucer is in mint condition with no cracks, chips, necks, scratches, fleabites, repairs, stains, and it has not been modified in any way. It looks like it has never been used.
