Staffordshire Ironstone White Mist

     Ironstone pottery was first made in 1813 It did not gained its popularity until the mid-nineteenth century. The heavy, durable, off-white pottery was general in white, some of the pieces were decorated with any of hundreds of colorful patterns, and other had embossed designs. The ironstone decoration would resemble porcelain patterns that were popular in England, Europe, America, and Asia. Many pieces of ironstone are unmarked, but some English and American factories included the word Ironstone in their markings. The Staffordshire China Company, in England, manufactured this ironstone sugar bowl with pattern number 4403 which had the name “White Mist”. the hallmark on the bottom of this sugar bowl is a crown over a geometric pattern with two lions on the hind legs facing each other on either side of the geometric pattern and under the pattern was “Made in Staffordshire” with the woed Staffordshire inside a ribbon. And below the ribbon is England over ironstone and dishwasher safe with the pattern number 4403. This sugar bowl has a White, Embossed Scroll Edge design on the shoulder with a scalloped top and the lid has the same White, Embossed Scroll Edge around the outer edge of the lid. It is in mint condition with no cracks, chips, necks, fleabites, repairs, or stains. In addition, looks like it has never been used.e White, Embossed Scroll around the outer edge of the lid.
