Before the end of the 1950s the Mikasa Company Inc. adopted the trademark "Mikasa” which is the Japanese word for "three umbrellas." Mikasa Co. Inc. was a fast-growing retailer and wholesaler company sold its dinnerware and decorative accessories through wholesale accounts in the United States and abroad and in the U.S., they had a network of approximately 150 U.S. based factory outlet stores. Unlike many of its competitors, the company did not own manufacturing facilities. Instead Mikasa Co. contracted out designs to approximately 175 factories in 25 countries. Mikasa’s twice nice is the name of two discontinued patterns. The first twice nice featured a yellow and green floral design and the second twice nice pattern features a purple flower with a polygon (10-sided object) design and was produced from 1982 to 1985. The word “A La Carte” translation means ”a menu or restaurant listing that can be ordered as a separate item, rather than part of a set meal”. This polygon footed cup and saucer set was given the name Twice Nice by Mikasa Co. Inc. and it was advertise as being oven safe, dishwasher safe, and microwave safe. It is in mint condition with no cracks, chips, necks, fleabites, repairs, or stains. In addition, it looks like it has never been used.
